President’s Message

December, 2009

CT PRIMA would like to welcome everyone to the 2009 – 2010 Chapter Year. Our Board of Directors is busy developing an exciting program of events, speakers, and topics that we feel, will be of interest to you. If you have a suggestion for a topic or an idea that you would like to share, please feel free to contact us.  We would love to hear from you .

Events planned for the coming year include:

January 21, 2010 (Luncheon) - Workers' Compensation Commission Chairman, John Mastropietro will be our guest speaker.  This meeting will also include a Medicare Set Aside Update with Richard Howley, V.P., Senior Claims Consultant, Willis HRH.

March 23, 2010 (Luncheon) - An annual municipal law update with Attorney Tom Gerarde of the Law Firm of Howd & Ludorf.

June 3, 2010 (Breakfast) - Background checks and surveillance with Brian Cyr of Hettrick & Cyr.

September 15, 2010 - Annual Risk Management Day. Our topic is fleet safety.  We would like to cover a variety of fleet safety related topics that would be appealing to all. If you have a specific fleet safety topic that you would like to see covered, please let us know. Or, if you are interested in participating in Risk Management Day as a presenter, please contact any one of the CT PRIMA Board Members.   Multiple presenters are also welcome.

In other news, all of our 2010 meetings will be held at the Courtyard by Marriott in Cromwell, CT.  Meeting location is critical to the membership, which is why our Board decided that this location provides easy access to our membership.  CT PRIMA does appreciate your membership and the Board does think of you first whenever we engage in the planning of CT PRIMA events.

The Board recently conducted a review of our Chapter by-laws.  Overall, we did not make too many changes, but we have made some; for example, with regard to the term of office by which Officers and Directors can serve.  The current by-laws indicate a term of one (1) year.  The Board thought there should be some flexibility with this term in the event there were not enough nominations.
The suggested change to this provision would allow the Board to waive the one (1) year term if deemed necessary.

The by-laws require that any amendment(s) must be brought to the membership for a vote. We intend to present this item to you for a vote at the March  2010 luncheon meeting.  The proposed changes will be mailed to you prior to the March meeting so you will have the opportunity to review them before casting your vote.

Also, as many of you know, our goal of creating a CT PRIMA Chapter website has been achieved. We invite you to visit www.ctprima.org for exciting Chapter news and links to other points of interest as well as information on upcoming meetings and online member registration.  We also have some nice photographs taken from this year's Annual Risk Management Day event and of our current Board Members.  We are continuing our efforts to grow the site so any comments and/or suggestions that you may have would be appreciated. We truly want to know what you think.

Members of the Board of Directors will be reaching out to the public entity community to increase the CT PRIMA Chapter membership. CT PRIMA would like ALL those involved in risk and insurance within their organizations such as Risk Managers, Finance and Human Resource professionals, Safety Directors, Benefits Administrators, and many others to join our Chapter family.

As your new Chapter President, I look forward to a successful year and welcome any and all input from members and associates on how CT PRIMA can better serve you.

I can be contacted at (860) 344-3516, or via email at dawn.warner@cityofmiddletown.com.

Thank you in advance for your continued support of CT PRIMA.

Dawn M. Warner
